Tesamorelin

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH) that stimulates the pituitary gland to increase endogenous growth hormone (GH) secretion. This, in turn, elevates circulating insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels, influencing lipid metabolism and body composition. Tesamorelin is FDA-approved for the reduction of excess visceral abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy, highlighting its clinically validated effects on fat distribution.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that tesamorelin significantly reduces visceral adipose tissue while preserving lean body mass, with additional benefits including improvements in lipid profiles and metabolic parameters. Research also suggests potential cognitive and neuroprotective effects, possibly linked to enhanced GH/IGF-1 signaling in the brain. While generally well tolerated, considerations include glucose metabolism changes and injection site reactions. Its use continues to be explored in broader metabolic and age-related applications.
