(Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a naturally occurring protein found in human gastric juice. It has been widely studied in preclinical models for its potential role in tissue repair, angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), and modulation of inflammatory pathways. Mechanistically, BPC-157 appears to interact with the nitric oxide (NO) system, promote fibroblast migration, and upregulate growth factors such as VEGF, all of which contribute to accelerated wound healing and improved structural integrity of damaged tissues. Its stability in gastric conditions has also made it of interest for gastrointestinal applications, where it has demonstrated protective effects on the mucosal lining and potential benefits in models of ulcers and inflammatory bowel conditions.
